MEMs Switch Driver

ASIC Success Story

Application

Electrical switches are ubiquitous in the modern world. They come in a variety of sizes, speed, reliability, and power ranges that cover orders of magnitude of differences. Recent advances in MEMs technology have brought about a switch platform that breaks existing tradeoff space constraints around size, R-on, and speed.

This new technology promises to supplant many of the existing switch solutions. For example, these novel MEMs devices can replace electromagnetic relays and improve performance, size, and weight by 99%–and even with improved reliability.

Custom Solution from CSS

CSS partnered with this innovative MEMs company to provide an ASIC that supplies the high-voltage drive signals needed to control the switch.

This ASIC implements a charge pump that creates a 100V output from a low voltage input. It also integrates an adjustable high-voltage regulator with outputs from 70-100V.

Finally, low-voltage digital & analog circuitry manage communications and housekeeping functions.

Key Features

  • DongBu HiTek 180nm High-Voltage CMOS
  • Charge pump from 5V to 100V
