Fuse Delay Timer

ASIC Success Story

Application

Today’s security is provided by world-class technolgy with semiconductors at the heart of the processing and intelligence.

For this ASIC, CSS partnered wtih the world’s leading provider of fuzes and safe & arm devices for use in missiles, rockets, and other ammunition devices.

Modern munitions require sophisticated and highly accurate timers for detonation and this custom ASIC provide amazing timing accuracy at incredibly low power.

Custom Solution from CSS

This ASIC provides a fuse delay which is programmable via an SPI interface.

An internal RC oscillator provides the reference clock, typically 5KHz, depending on selection of the external timing components.  Time delays can be selected with less than 1msec resolution.

A 23-bit pre-scale counter, when enabled, provides a watchdog function with periods up to several days.

This ASIC was also designed to be 100% backwards compatible with an earlier design to replace an obsolete part.  Finally, a data converter was embedded to provide 12 new delay settings.

Key Features

  • Ultra-low Power 5KHz Reference clock generator
